Percussion duo | Dayton, OH

Neutrals is a percussion duo based in Dayton, OH. Formed in 2016 by Evan Miller and Andrew Seivert, the duo combines their Rust Belt underground upbringings and classical training into a contemporary ensemble firmly grounded by their Midwestern roots. Equal parts written works and electroacoustic improvisation, Neutrals performs established percussion duo repertoire, drone/noise-based improvised music, and above all, commissioned works by living composers. Past and current collaborators include composers Rob Funkhouser, Nate May, Hugh Sheehan, and Brooks Frederickson, percussionist Aaron Michael Butler, Cincinnati experimental ensemble Knee Play, and Indianapolis-based production company NoExit Performance.


Evan Miller is a percussionist and improviser based in Dayton, OH. His interests lie in experimental performance and noise, as well as performing chamber and solo contemporary music.

As a contemporary music performer, Evan is an avid chamber player, active in performing established repertoire and collaborating with composers for new works. Notable recent performances include the 2016 Percussive Arts Society International Convention, 2017/2018 Nelsonville Music Festival, 2017/2018 Athens International Film + Video Festival, and 2017 Big Ears Festival (w/ Nief-Norf). He has performed in clinics/masterclass for Robert Van Sice, So Percussion, Tim Feeney, Doug Perkins, Svet Stoyanov, Gwen Dease, Mobius Percussion, and James Culley, and has attended the Bang on a Can Summer Festival, the So Percussion Summer Institute (as a participant, and an intern) and the Chosen Vale International Percussion Seminar.

Outside of contemporary music, Evan works with percussion, cassette tapes, and objects to make a mix of improvised/composed drone music, in solo and group settings. Recent performance venues include Rhizome (DC), Outpost 186 (Boston), and The Spot (Lafayette, IN). Evan is also a member of Neutrals, an experimental percussion duo, with Andrew Seivert.

Recordings of his work can be heard on the Personal Archives, Alien Passengers, and Medium Sound labels.

Evan holds an undergraduate degree in percussion performance and a certificate in arts management from Wright State University, where he studied with Jerry Noble.

Outside of performing, Evan is Music Department Assistant at WYSO Public Radio in Yellow Springs, OH, where he serves as support staff for the music department/substitute host for the weekday music show Excursions, and host of a contemporary/experimental music radio show, The Outside. He also operates a cassette label called New Village Tapes, releasing experimental music of all kinds since 2020.

Andrew Seivert is a Percussionist, Teacher, and Composer based in Dayton OH. 

Andrew received his Bachelor of Music Performance in Percussion at Wright State University. There he was a member of the Wright State University Percussion Studio, under the instruction of Jerry Noble. In his time there he performed works by various composers including Reich, Xenakis, Cage, Lansky, and many more. He has performed in notable ensemble performances, including being a featured soloist at the Ohio Music Education Association Conference in 2016, and at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2016. Notable solo performances include performing as a finalist in The Masterworks Honor Recital 2015, and the Wright State University Young Artists Competition 2017.

Andrew is a founding member of Neutrals, a percussion duo based in Dayton OH. Neutrals performs contemporary percussion and electronic music throughout the region including OH, MI, IN, KY, PA, MA, and NY.

Currently he teaches at Archbishop Alter High School, where he serves as the Director of Percussion.

Formerly Andrew was the Assistant Director of Bands, and the Director of Percussion at Brookville High School from the fall of 2015 through the spring of 2018.

He has written music for solo and chamber percussion, and currently writes and arranges music for marching band, and indoor percussion. Andrew was awarded the Charles R. Spinney Music Composition Award in 2015.
